Guernsey Finance

Guernsey pioneered the concept of an institution such as the GTA. The core of its success lies in its role as a procurer and facilitator rather than provider of education and training. It offers highly specialised, niche training for the finance industry, professional qualifications, generic managerial education and postgraduate courses.

Established in 1996, ten years later the GTA was accredited as a university centre. By the middle of 2008, the GTA was working with six UK based universities, a number of professional bodies and training providers, as well as utilising the services of on-Island trainers and the Guernsey College of Further Education.

The GTA’s portfolio of procured programmes includes Masters Degrees in Corporate Governance and Business Administration, an MBA for Wealth Managers, Fiduciaries and Trustees, the Certificate in Captive Insurance, professional programmes of the Securities Institute, the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP), the International Compliance Association, the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) and the Institute of Directors (IoD). 

A range of programmes has also been developed by our partners that are specifically tailored to the Guernsey market. These include the Guernsey Insurance Certificate, the Certificate in Captive Insurance and a wide portfolio of short course programmes relating to back office training for funds administration staff, funds management, anti money laundering and financial crime. In 2007 the GTA was proud to offer the Securities Institute’s Certificate in Islamic Finance, so that Guernsey became the only jurisdiction outside of London where the qualification was offered. Also, the unique success of the Institute of Directors’ Company Direction Programme in Guernsey and the increasing number of successful graduates of the programme, stands testimony to the professionalism of Guernsey’s corporate leaders.
