Guernsey Finance

Lyndon Trott was educated at Elizabeth College and after trained as an Accountant. In 1984 he joined the merchant bank Guinness Mahon & Co. Ltd. (now known as Investec Bank) as assistant Finance Director. In 1986 he moved to the bank’s treasury department and had particular responsibility for the banks foreign exchange trading book. Following secondment to head office in the City of London, Lyndon returned to Guernsey to become the manager of its Guernsey treasury operation. 

In 2000 he was elected to the States of Guernsey for his first four year term and became its then youngest member. Early political responsibilities included trade and industry.  In 2004 Lyndon was re-elected, this time topping the poll. Following this he became the Island’s first Treasury and Resources Minister, a position he held until May 2008.

The position of Treasury Minister has political responsibility for the oversight of the management of cash, equities and bonds in excess of £1.25 billion pounds and built assets of around £1.5 billion. The department also acts in the shareholder role for the Island’s state owned airline, electricity generating company and postal operation.

As the Island’s Chancellor he was also politically responsible for public sector expenditure of c. £350 million per annum. As a member of the States of Guernsey Policy Council he led the process of Fiscal and Economic Reform, which has resulted in substantial changes to the Island’s corporate tax regime in order to ensure international competitiveness.  In May 2008, Lyndon was elected Chief Minister of the Island of Guernsey, a position he will hold until 2012. Guernsey’s most senior role is responsible for our international relations.

For the last nine years and when not engaged in Government business, Lyndon was the Financial Controller and Company Secretary of a major firm of Chartered Architects & Chartered Surveyors.  Lyndon is married to Karen. He has two children.
