Philip Marr

Director of Banking, Guernsey Financial Services Commission

After a postgraduate degree in Economics, Philip Marr joined the Bank of England in 1968. He was Economic Adviser to the Government of Bermuda from 1974 to 1977 and entered Banking Supervision on his return to the Bank. He was appointed Adviser to the Bahrain Monetary Agency from 1982 to 1984. He was manager of several groups of banks in Supervision at the Bank of England.

After a secondment to Hambros Bank in 1988–1989 he was appointed Manager, On-Site Review Teams. He was appointed Senior Manager, Enforcement in 1995 and joined the Commission in June 1997.

He has been a member of the Offshore Group of Banking Supervisors (OGBS) since 1997 and was a member of the Joint OGBS/Basel Committee Working Group on Cross Border Banking from 2001 to 2007.
