Lord Mayor of London to visit Guernsey

Mon, 19/07/2010 10:45

The Lord Mayor of the City of London, Alderman Nick Anstee, is visiting Guernsey on Wednesday 21 July.

The Lord Mayor will meet key government and business figures to further strengthen the existing relationship between Guernsey and the City. The links between these leading international finance centres were highlighted by the UK Government only last year in HM Treasury’s independent Review of British Offshore Financial Centres (‘the Foot Review’).

As head of the City of London Corporation, which provides business and local government services to the City, the Lord Mayor of London's principal role today is ambassador for all UK-based financial and professional services.

Guernsey’s Chief Minister, Lyndon Trott, said: “The importance of the relationship between Guernsey and the City of London cannot be understated and was recognised by the UK Government in last year’s Foot Report. Last February, I had the great honour and privilege to speak at the City of London Corporation Finance Committee Dinner, and so, naturally, I am delighted to able to welcome the Lord Mayor to the Island, and am looking forward to strengthening our already excellent links.”

The Lord Mayor is visiting Jersey the preceding day, Tuesday 20 July.
