Guernsey’s 2022 Sustainable Finance Strategy outlines the jurisdiction’s commitment to leading global efforts in green and sustainable finance. Developed by Guernsey Green Finance, (now Sustainable Finance Guernsey) in collaboration with international partners and local stakeholders, the strategy builds on Guernsey’s reputation as a trusted and innovative financial centre. It sets out a clear vision to use Guernsey’s expertise to finance a greener future, promote sustainable products and services, and foster global connections.
The report identifies three Tier 1 priorities: biodiversity, energy transition, and carbon pricing and markets. These themes reflect urgent global challenges and opportunities for financial innovation. Guernsey aims to support nature-based solutions, develop frameworks for transition finance, and explore mechanisms for carbon and biodiversity credits.
Tier 2 and 3 priorities include ESG education, product labelling, social investment, innovation, and the use of technology and data. The strategy also emphasises “Greening Guernsey” through local climate policy and alignment with the Paris Agreement.
Guernsey’s membership in global networks like UN FC4S and its pioneering initiatives—such as the Guernsey Green Fund and TISE Sustainable—reinforce its leadership. The strategy positions Guernsey as a force for global good, ready to meet climate challenges through private finance and sustainable growth.
