Guernsey Finance Chief Executive Rupert Pleasant has been awarded the Freedom of the City of London.
One of the City of London’s ancient traditions, the Freedom is offered by the City of London Corporation to individuals as a way of paying tribute to their outstanding contribution to London or public life, or to celebrate a very significant achievement.
Rupert has received the title for his significant contributions in furthering the relationship between Guernsey and the City of London in respect to the financial services sector.
The nomination was made by Lord Mayor Professor Michael Mainelli himself, who is the 695th Lord Mayor of the City of London.
Leading figures from the business, finance, law, education, medicine, literature, and diversity and inclusion sectors were honoured at the Lord Mayor’s official residence, The Mansion House, for outstanding achievements in their respective fields.
The awards were given as part of the Lord Mayor’s ‘Connect to Prosper’ theme, which focuses on the City's expertise in areas such as finance, law, and engineering, and brings together experts to work on critical global challenges, such as climate change and artificial intelligence (AI).
Rupert said: “It has been a great honour to be made a Freeman of the City of London, which was very humbling especially being in such esteemed company for the ceremony.
"It is a great endorsement of the huge efforts made by my colleagues at Guernsey Finance, both on and off island, to promote Guernsey as a leading international finance centre into the City of London and throughout the UK as a whole.”
